Childersburg is transforming into a Christmas Village for the holiday season!

Volunteer crews of Christmas elves are busy these days, transforming downtown Childersburg into a unique Christmas Village for the holiday season. Storefronts, sidewalks, and public spaces are being decorated in anticipation of the 2nd Annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 16th. That same night, Santa will be joined by several fun family attractions in Kiwanis park, and Desoto park will play host to a patriotic tribute to area veterans, featuring members of Childersburg’s American Legion Post.

On Saturday, November 18th, the Butler-Harris-Rainwater House plays host to their annual Christmas Bazaar with dozens of seasonal vendors, as well as the beautifully-decorated historic home itself! That starts at 10:00 a.m.

And besides creating a festival holiday mood throughout town, there are plans to reward those who spend their time and money during a “Childersburg Shopping Spree” from Monday, November 12th through Saturday, November 24th. Here’s how it will work:

Shop with any and all retail businesses in Childersburg during that time frame and save those receipts! Make copies of those you need to save for your records, and stop by the Greater Coosa Valley Chamber of Commerce (805 3rd Street SW in Childersburg) the week of November 26th through the 30th, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day to drop off your stash of Childersburg receipts! (Limit one receipt per business per day.). Then, on Monday, December 3rd, we’ll reward eight shoppers with a $50 gift card each!

But wait, that’s hardly all! Starting on Friday, November 30th, the historic Kymulga Grist Mill Park turns into a holiday wonderland in decorative lighted scenes. You guessed it, “Christmas in the Pines” is back for its second season with more than 2,000,000 lights in more than fifty holiday-themed displays. That weekend (Friday, Saturday & Sunday) and the next, “Christmas in the Pines” will be open from 5:00 to 10:30 p.m. And, starting on Thursday, December 13th and running through Sunday, December 23rd, they will be open nightly during the same hours.

Families and groups are encouraged to book ahead to reserve their spots in advance at special discounted rates. All visitors will be warmly welcomed into a Christmas Village of holiday & food vendors while they await their turns on a 1-mile hay ride adventure of holiday lights!

Children five and under are free, and tickets for ages 6 & up are $7 in advance or $9 at the gate. For special group rates and advanced ticket sales, call (256) 404-4590.
