It’s a busy time as families get into their summertime routines. But there’s some other “action” you’re bound to run into across South Talladega County!
It’s tournament time for youth baseball and softball. And both Sylacauga and Childersburg are bringing in teams by the dozens as host communities for both Cal Ripkin district and state tournaments. And that means hundreds, if not thousands of visitors in town to support their home town teams. All these teams, their players, coaches, and fans represent a big boost to our local economy. Please welcome our visitors warmly and help make them feel welcome!
That action starts this week for more than a dozen visiting teams with district tournament games on the schedule in both cities each evening through the weekend. Childersburg is hosting the 12 & Under age group, and Sylacauga is hosting 8 & Under teams.
Also this week, Sylacauga hosts the 12-year-old State Little League Tournament with the eventual winner moving on the Southeast Region play in Warner Robbins, Georgia.
A bit later in the month, starting on June 28th, both cities again play host, this time for Cal Ripkin state tournaments, expecting a total of more than 40 visiting teams.
Childersburg is back in play for the girls’ softball Alabama Recreation & Parks Association State Tournament, starting July 13th with more than 30 teams involved.
