Childersburg Council approves five resolutions & other important measures

The Childersburg City Council met Tuesday (8/1) evening with a heavy agenda, including passage of five resolutions:

One of those resolutions confirmed an agreement with the East Alabama Commission on an 80/20 grant for a new transportation bus, authorizing Mayor Ken Wesson to sign documents.

The Council approved a resolution authorizing execution of a contract with BanCorpSouth to finance the new Sanitation Truck.

Also approved was a resolution awarding a bid to Lansford Construction on a Butler Rainwater Museum patio project ($17,280), as requested by the Historical Preservation Commission.

Another resolution approved a contract with CB&A Project Management to develop a parking lot adjacent to the Rainwater Library. Also contributing funding to the project will be the Library and the Commercial Development Authority.

The night’s final resolution authorized the purchase of a Demers Ford Transit Ambulance in the amount of $86,250 under NJPA Powers Alliance from Emergency Equipment Professionals, Inc.

The Council authorized Mayor Wesson to begin negotiation on an additional Garbage Truck through the NJPA purchasing alliance.

Approval was given to purchase a pair of Kubota Commercial Mowers ($7.548 each), for the Street & Parks and Recreation Departments.

The Council gave approval to advertise for bids for the purchase of an ambulance from funds recently granted through Homeland Security, as well as to advertise in The Daily Home Prep Football Magazine.

 

During the Town Hall portion of the meeting, Mayor Wesson asked the public to help identify street lights that are out, “There is an ID-tag about head high on each pole. Please report the numbers of those that are out to Ada Hamilton at City Hall so we can compile a list to get Alabama Power to address them!

Tom Roberts of the Greater Coosa Valley Chamber of Commerce gave information about Tiger Fest 2017. It will take place at the new stadium on Saturday, August 12th, beginning at 6:00 p.m, “New Principal Quentin Lee asks that businesses, churches, and other organizations register to have a tent &/or booth on the track during the event. He wants a real Childersburg Celebration. We’ll have more details on the fun activities on Thursday afternoon!
