Childersburg City Council meets

The Childersburg City Council met at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16th at City Hall, acting on the following agenda items:

Resolution 2017-09 was approved awarding legal title search services for a Community Development Block Grant demolition project. The law firm of Robbins & Robbins was the low bidder at $100 per title search.

The Council appointed Linda Moody to the Library Board for a term expiring 10/1/2020.

Approval was given to hire Phillip Calhoun as a full-time permanent CDL Operator for the Street & Sanitation Department.

The Council approved the hire of William Loux as Firefighter/Basic on a full-time permanent basis.

Approval was given to have Garnett Raymond perform a variety of repairs to the Police Department building at an amount not to exceed $5,000.

The Council moved Ryan Brown’s employment status from temporary to full-time permanent as Animal Control Officer, assigned to the Police Department.

Approval was granted for a transfer of location for a Beer License for David Garcia’s Rancho Las Cavernas to 965 Childersburg-Fayetteville Highway.

The Council approved invoices in the amount of $104,575.96.

During the Town Hall discussion at the end of the meeting, Mayor Ken Wesson noted that the Childersburg High School 4 by 100-meter relay team had won a state championship. He also had praise for CHS student Isaiah Jones for his nomination to be a part of the statewide “Victory” program. Wesson thanked Batter Up for their efforts in organizing last weekend’s charity softball tournament, which raised $1,350 each for the Childersburg Police, Childersburg Fire, Sylacauga Police, and Sylacauga Fire departments to go toward the purchase of needed equipment. There was also a reminder of the Senior Citizen Fish Fry on Thursday,, May 18th at 5:00 p.m., to be held at the Childersburg (Limbaugh) Recreation Center.
