On a recent day, Rainwater Library Director Susan Carpenter stood behind the main desk at work and gazed at the front door, “How would I react if someone came through the door holding a gun? How should I act instead?”
Then she figured that others might want that same answer. So, she arranged for Roger Humber of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) to conduct a program on active shooters and how to prepare for that day no one wants to actually happen. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, August 15th starting at 10:00 a.m.
“When something like that happens, you don’t have time to think,” explained Carpenter. “So, knowing in advance what steps you should take is essential. We felt that this was important enough to book a law enforcement professional to educate our staff and our city.”
The public is invited, but Carpenter does ask that you let her know that you’re coming to properly prepare. Call the Rainwater Library at (256) 378-7239.
