A packed house enjoyed annual Greater Coosa Valley Chamber Awards Banquet

The Greater Coosa Valley Chamber of Commerce held it’s annual Awards Banquet on the campus of Central Alabama Community College the evening of Thursday, March 8th. Following a dinner catered by CVMC’s Hickory Street Cafe with dinner music from Teresa Yeager, Mayor Ken Wesson of Childersburg presented a “State of the City” address.

Mayor Wesson highlighted the many positives of the new City Administration, including but not limited to the many equipment and vehicle upgrades, “When we took office we found that the City of Childersburg was in very sound fiscal condition with very little debt and an excellent credit rating. We have a long line of past city leaders to thank for that. We also saw a budget that was dominated by a large amount of money spent in maintaining and repairing an aging inventory of vehicles and equipment. We have addressed that and will continue to address those needs. We have added five new police vehicles, two new garbage trucks, a new ambulance, and more.”

Wesson also spoke of economic development efforts, “From our Council to the new Commercial Development Authority, with lots of help and support from throughout the community, we are starting to see the fruits of our economic development labors. This week, we were able to announce that a successful and established business, Heavenly Grounds will be adding a location in the former J&J Drug building, the first step of many to create a downtown that will be a destination in and of itself. And there is plenty more good news just around the corner as our City is investing a lot of effort in upgrading our business community and expanding our tax base.”
